Protect Your Land
The Conservation Life Cycle
Conservation is not a singular event. It is a life cycle. It begins with trust and a shared vision for the future of a piece of land. It moves through careful planning and protection. And then it enters its longest phase, stewardship, where year after year, generation after generation, we ensure its conservation values endure. A conservation easement is forever, and so is our commitment.
MLR brings committed landowners, passionate supporters, and experienced professionals together to protect the Montana we all love. From creating and stewarding conservation easements, to ensuring that MLR has the resources to partner with landowners across the state, to handling the technical work from kitchen table to completed easement beyond, MLR’s work is rooted in a cycle of partnership that reinforces itself year after year.
Conservation Easements
A conservation easement is a voluntary legal agreement between a landowner and a land trust like MLR that permanently limits the uses of the land in order to protect its conservation values.
Stewardship
Once a conservation easement is signed, MLR, the landowner, and future landowners begin a working relationship to ensure that the intended conservation becomes a reality.
