Keeping it Friendly Across Montana
At MLR, we wouldn’t be successful in protecting land across Montana without the relationships we forge with landowners, neighbors, and communities. Each of the 1.5 million acres we have helped protect tells a story. And each of those stories holds the face of someone who trusts us to uphold their vision for the land they love, forever.
This trust is the foundation of everything we do. It’s what being a great neighbor means to us.
“Everybody I’ve connected with at MLR is a people person, just warm and genuine and easy to talk to,” said Linda Brander, who owns a protected property in Powell County. “I’m so proud to be part of a statewide effort to conserve land for the future.”
Partnering with families to protect working lands and open space benefits their neighbors, their communities, and the whole state. This becomes clear when one family putting their land under conservation easement inspires their neighbors to do the same. It becomes a way for the community to come together and keep the place they live intact and working for everyone, particularly the next generation of ranchers and farmers.
“When I knew that I was going to put this place in a conservation easement, I called the neighbors and hosted a gathering at my home to hear what MLR had to say,” recalled Ruth Lott, who owns a protected property in Jefferson County. “My neighbor across the river said ‘we’re in’ from the start, and I’m hoping that eventually others do the same thing.”
Ensuring that agricultural land is preserved in perpetuity is an investment in the future of a community. It is an investment in the agricultural economy that benefits folks across a town, a county, the state, and beyond.
