Montana Land Reliance
2009 Financial Results

Financial conservatism yields continued success

As one of the nation’s leading private land conservation groups, the Montana Land Reliance is funded entirely by private support from a generous family of friends. The foundation of our conservation success is the result of financial strength built with a view to the future through daily, prudent financial management.

Two thousand nine was a year of renewed growth for MLR with financial assets growing from $12.4 million at the end of 2008, to $14.1 million at the end of 2009. While taking growth opportunities where available, MLR continued its commitment to maintaining an income stream from the combined funds to provide direct support to our private conservation efforts across Montana.

In 2009, the combined funds of MLR contributed $456,949 to help fund private land conservation projects and outreach programs. These programs provide for land stewardship and easement monitoring as well as our educational outreach to the public and to individual landowners about the benefits of private land conservation.

Through the gifts of our family of friends, the Montana Land Reliance operated in the black again in 2009, and at the end of the year had accumulated financial assets of $14,160,188. The chart below shows a breakdown of each of our accounts, their account balances at the end of 2009, and a brief description of how we use the funds entrusted to us by our generous family of friends.
