Shane Colton was raised in the Central Montana farm and ranch community of Denton. Shane graduated with honors from Montana State University in 1991. Shane obtained his law degree from the University of Montana in 1996 and since 1999, has practiced at the law firm that is now Edmiston & Colton.
Shane has spent his entire legal career representing injured Montanans against insurance companies, auto manufacturers, and corporations. Over the last 15 years the law firm of Edmiston & Colton has produced successful results for hundreds of Montanans.
In 2005, Shane was appointed to the Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks Commission by Governor Brian Schweitzer. He served on the Commission for over eight years; serving as both vice-chairman and chairman of the commission. In that time he was instrumental in numerous large scale conservation projects and access agreements. He currently serves as president of the board of Family Promise of Yellowstone Valley. Family Promise works to transition local families out of homelessness.
