For fifteen years, Jess Peterson has bridged our nation’s Capital with rural America by managing agricultural, natural resource, and rural development policies through his firm Western Skies Strategies (WSS). He and his team staff the US Cattlemen’s Association, the Society for Range Management, the Association of Official Seed Analysts and the Society of Commercial Seed Technologists. WSS also designs specialized rural consulting and communications projects and oversees services from strategic planning to content management to membership outreach and fly-in support. He balances this work with his family’s cow-calf Black Angus operation, maintaining summer leases and wintering headquarters near Billings, Montana with his wife, Laura, two daughters, and parents – Lyle and Karla. Jess is an alumnus of Gonzaga University and Miles City Community College and volunteers with the Billings Chamber of Commerce and the Hoops for Youth Foundation.
It’s with great pride and passion that I serve on the Future Montana Committee to help advance MLR’s mission and vision. MLR promotes and maintains working lands both for my generation and generations to follow. It means a lot to me that MLR values the ranch and land management efforts put forth by families like mine along with the vision to ensure that the greater public will share in the benefits of successful livestock, wildlife and working lands management. – Jess Peterson
